Dow Selected To Lead Lady Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. - Jeff Dow has been named head women's basketball coach at Anderson College, AC athletic director Bobby Beville announced Wednesday night. Dow, who has experience as a women's assistant coach at four Division I institutions, comes to Anderson College after a three-year stint as an assistant at Colorado State University. "We believe Jeff is a good fit for our program," Beville said. "He has an impressive resume and everyone he has worked for who we talked to gave him high marks for his knowledge of the game, his work ethic, and his ability to recruit. He is ready to be a head coach. We are happy he has decided to join our coaching staff at Anderson College." Dow, a native of Medford, Ore., earned a B.S. in psychology and physical education from the University of Oregon in 1988 and a M.S. in physical education in '91. "I'm very excited about the opportunity at Anderson College," Dow said. "When I had the opportunity to meet with a number of people on campus during my interview process, I was impressed with the enthusiasm everyone displayed about the direction of the school and athletic department. Anderson College has a well-rounded perspective of what college athletics are all about." Dow inherits a program that has won 58 games in the past two seasons. In 2004-05, the Lady Trojans were 33-3, won the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference regular-season and tournament titles and reached the East Regional final. "I've had the opportunity to meet with a couple of players and both were goal oriented and motivated for the upcoming season," Dow said. "The players are expecting great things this year. We will continue to play up tempo. I like to pressure 94 feet. We will pick up full court and try to create easy scoring opportunities. Our offense will be based on transition. We want to play a fast pace and wear down the opposition, but we also will have set plays to take advantage of our individual skills. " At Colorado State, Dow was responsible for practice organization, scouting, recruiting, monitoring the academic support program, and public relations. The Lady Rams made two post-season appearances during his time in Fort Collins. "My immediate priority is to visit with ever returning player and signee by phone or face to face," Dow said. "I want to get to know them, and I want to talk to them about my expectations for the program." Prior to his three years at Colorado State, Dow was an assistant at Santa Clara University for two years, interim head coach at Texas-San Antonio for one year, assistant at California-Irvine for three seasons, assistant at New Mexico State for four years, and interim head coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville for two seasons. Dow started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Oregon for the 1989-90 season. "I want to thank Bobby Beville, the search committee, and Dr. Evans Whitaker for the opportunity to become a part of the Anderson College family," Dow said. "An excellent standard has been established for the women's basketball program at Anderson College. I'm flattered to have the opportunity to take over a program that finished No. 9 in the country last season."
