Chiles Named First Team All-Region

ANDERSON, S.C. -- CVAC Player of the Year and CVAC Tournament MVP LaShonda Chiles added another honor to her extensive resume Monday. Chiles was named to the Daktronics Division II East Region first team. She will now be placed on the Daktronics Division II All-America ballot. Chiles, a 5-foot-2 sophomore from Greenwood, S.C., has scored in double figures in all 33 games this season and has a streak of 42 in a row. Chiles is the only sophomore on the first team and one of just two sophomores on the two teams. She has scored a school record 747 points this season while averaging 22.6 points per game. She led the CVAC in scoring and has been in the nation's top 10 most of the season. For the season, Chiles is shooting 42 percent from the field, 34 percent from behind the arc, and 79 percent from the free throw line. She has made 77 3-point goals this season. Chiles also averages 4.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. In 1,194 minutes this season as Anderson's main ball handler, she has had 173 assists to just 77 turnovers. In the CVAC Tournament final against Belmont Abbey, Chiles scored 26 points and had five assists and four rebounds. The other members of the first team are Kristen Gattuso of Fairmont State, Melissa Patterson of Pitt Johnstown, Lisa Lee of Charleston (W. Va.), and Sara McKinney of California (Pa.). Four of the five players on the first team will participate in the East Regional Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Anderson College.
