Chiles Named MVP; Langston, Ponds Make All-Tourney

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- LaShonda Chiles of Anderson College was named the most valuable player of the 2005 CVAC Tournament after leading the Lady Trojans to an 85-67 victory over Belmont Abbey in the championship game Saturday afternoon at the Timken Center. Chiles, a 5-foot-2 sophomore from Greenwood, S.C., has won two straight tournament MVP awards. She also was named the league's 2004-05 Player of the Year. In three tournament games, Chiles averaged 24 points per game and 14 rebounds and 13 assists. Chiles enters next week's NCAA Tournament with 1,325 career points. Joining Chiles on the all-tournament team were teammates Stephanie Ponds and Deidra Langston. Langston, a 5-foot-10 native of Gainesville, Ga., scored 59 points and shot 55 percent from the field in three tournament games. Ponds, a 6-foot-2 native of Bethune, S.C., scored 55 points and shot 72 percent from the field in the three games. The other members of the all-tournament team were Melissa Woods of Erskine, Kelly Lamotta of Barton, and Heather Schleupner and Nicole Woods of Belmont Abbey.
