AC Places Three Players On All-CVAC Team

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Anderson College had three players - LaShonda Chiles, Stephanie Ponds, and Deidra Langston - named to the 2004-05 All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's basketball team, the league announced at the annual basketball banquet Thursday night at Limestone College. Each CVAC school was allowed to nominate just three players for All-CVAC honors. Chiles, a 5-foot-2 sophomore from Greenwood, S.C., was named to the first team for the second time in her career, and she added the Player of the Year award to the Freshman of the Year award she received last season. Chiles scored in double figures in all 30 of Anderson's regular season games and led the CVAC in scoring at 22.5 points per game. She scored 20 or more points 21 times with a high game of 41 against Queens (N.C.) on Feb. 7. She shot 43 percent from the field, 34 percent from behind the arc, and 77 percent from the free throw line. A three-time CVAC Player of the Week, Chiles became the first Anderson underclassman to reach 1,000 career points. After her 24-point performance against Queens in the CVAC Tournament quarterfinals Wednesday night, she is now second on the Anderson College career scoring list with 1,277 points in 62 games. She lead Anderson in double doubles with 13. She recorded 28 double-figure scoring games and 14 double-figure rebounding games. Ponds' highest scoring game of the season was against Francis Marion on Dec. 16 - 26 points. She also had a career-high 16 rebounds in that game, a feat she repeated on Feb. 10 against Lees-McRae. Ponds, who earned one CVAC Player of the Week award, led Anderson in blocks during the regular season with 54. Joining Chiles and Ponds on the first team were Nicole Woods of Belmont Abbey, Deanna Lady of Lees-McRae, and Keana Vinson of Barton. Langston, an honorable mention selection as a freshman, made the second team. Langston, the leader of Anderson's full-court pressure defense, was third on the team in steals with 53.
