Belmont Abbey Scores Late To Eliminate AC

BELMONT, N.C. - Belmont Abbey scored the only goal of the game with 3:15 remaining to defeat Anderson College Saturday morning in the CVAC Men's Soccer Tournament. The Crusaders advance to the tournament final to face regular-season champion Queens Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Neither team mustered much offense with the Abbey recording seven shots in the match and Anderson taking two shots. The game got more physical as time ticked away with the Trojans taking the aggressor role, picking up 22 fouls and five yellow cards, most of them in the second half. With the game on its way to overtime, Belmont Abbey finally broke through. Luis Arrieta got on the end of a cross and knocked it home for the 1-0 lead. The Crusaders brought on another defender and stymied Anderson in the final three minutes to preserve the victory. The loss ends Anderson's season at 9-9-2.
