ANDERSON, S.C. -- Will Van Nostrand scored on a header off an assist from Tolu Popoola at the 89:28 mark to give Anderson a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon at Smethers Field. With the victory and Belmont Abbey's 1-0 decision over Mount Olive, the Trojans solidified second place in the CVAC standings. Anderson has a four-point lead over both Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey and trails first-place Queens by just two points. Anderson, 8-6-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the CVAC, played the final 65 minutes one man down after Michael Zion received a red card at the 24:28 mark. The Bobcats, 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the CVAC, took a 1-0 lead when Rocky Bravo scored on a penalty kick at 16:18 after Anderson was called for a hand ball in the box. Trailing 1-0 at the half, Anderson got the equalizer early in the second half when Stephon Henry won the ball 10 yards outside the box and dribbled through the Bobcat defense to beat L-M goalkeeper Dylan Lawrence at the 43:48 mark. The goal was Henry's first of the season. Both teams had late chances before Van Nostrand's game winner. A free kick by Bravo from 20 yards was knocked away by Anderson goalkeeper Jack Ward at 14:12, and Henry had a short shot stopped by Lawrence at 8:30. With the final seconds of regulation ticking away, Popoola sent a cross from the right wing that Van Nostrand headed and just nudged across the goal line for his fourth goal of the season. Anderson had 14 shots to 10 for Lees-McRae. Ward made five saves to pick up the victory. Lawrence made four saves for the Bobcats. Anderson College Men's Soccer Statistics
