Trojans Improve To 5-1 In CVAC

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Anderson College rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat Coker 4-2 in a CVAC men's match Saturday afternoon. The victory improves Anderson to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in the CVAC. The 5-1 mark is Anderson's best start ever in CVAC play. With the loss, Coker falls to 2-8, 0-6. The match featured physical play from the start. Coker took advantage first when it was awarded a penalty kick just one minute into the game. Justin Potter beat Anderson's keeper Jack Ward to give Coker the early 1-0 lead. Anderson would answer with a goal by Will Van Nostrand in the 16th minute to tie the match at 1. The score remained tied until the second half when Coker's Sean Maupin fed Matt Jarrett a cross in front of the net that Jarrett headed and the keeper blocked. Jarrett collected the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net to give Coker a 2-1 lead. But the Trojans would score again to tie the match at 2. Micheal Zion beat Coker's Aaron Osteen for the equalizer. Four minutes later, Anderson had a chance to take the lead with a penalty kick, but Osteen came up with a huge save to stop Anderson's Clint Gillis. Anderson took the lead in the 76th minute when Wrenel Roberts scored the Trojans' third goal off a corner kick by Stephon Henry. The Trojans would seal the win three minutes later with a goal by Josh Pittman. Coker keeper Aaron Osteen had a 13 saves in the game, and Anderson's Jack Ward had two saves.
