Men's Soccer Team Ends Regular Season With Loss

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Pfeiffer closed out the regular season with a 3-2 victory over Anderson College in a CVAC match Saturday afternoon. Both schools will participate in the 2005 CVAC Tournament, which begins Wednesday. Anderson, 8-8-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the CVAC, will play host to a first-round playoff game for the first time ever at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The pairings for the tournament will be announced Sunday. The Falcons, 9-6-1 and 6-4, jumped to a quick 1-0 lead in the third minute. Kyle Olmstead got a pass from Davi Lorenzo and put the ball into the open net. Anderson fought back and was rewarded in the 13th minute when Lahnden Onger beat his defender and slotted the ball past the keeper, off the far post and into the net. Seven minutes later, Wrenel Roberts hit a 20-yard free kick into the top left corner of the goal to give Anderson a 2-1 lead. In the 37th minute, Michael Sobolewski tied the score at 2-2 when he intercepted a back pass and calmly slid it past the goalie from eight yards out. Three minutes from half, Cihan Nuhoglu took a pass from Matt Harris and put it into the back of the goal from fifteen yards out to give the Falcons a 3-2 lead. Both defenses settled down after halftime and the second half turned into a midfield battle. Anderson had a couple of good scoring chances, but David Sheridan, playing in his last home game, came up with two big saves to keep the Falcons in front. Pfeiffer had several good scoring opportunities late in the second half but could not convert. Anderson College Men's Soccer Statistics
