Lander Rallies To Beat Anderson, 3-2

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Trailing 2-1 with 12 minutes remaining, Lander rallied to pull out a 3-2 non-conference victory over Anderson College Tuesday night at Smethers Field. Lander, 4-1 overall, was led by Luke Ibbetson, who scored two goals, including the game winner at the 84:37 mark. Anderson, 1-4 overall, fell behind 1-0 after Ibbetson scored his first goal at 19:10. But the Trojans got two goals from Tolu Popoola -- the first at 29:34 and the second at 48:02 -- to take a 2-1 lead. The Trojans held on a 2-1 advantage until 78:10 when Tyler Davis drilled a 25-yard shot over the head of Anderson goalkeeper Jack Ward to tie the match. Less than six minutes later, Ibbetson won the ball in the box and fired the game winner into the back of the net. Both teams had 13 shots apiece. Lander goalkeeper Ryan Peck made eight saves to pick up the victory. Lander is now 4-1 against CVAC schools this season. All four victories were by one goal and three (St. Andrews Presbyterian, Erskine, and Anderson) were 3-2 finals. Mount Olive handed Lander its lone loss to date by a 3-2 score.
