ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Lenoir-Rhyne College shut out Anderson College 1-0, in the season opener for both teams at the Mars Hill Invitational at Memorial Park. The victory came in the debut of new Lenoir-Rhyne Head Coach Adrian Blewitt. Despite out-shooting Anderson, 14-3, L-R scored just once but it was enough for the victory. Senior forward Alex Maric scored the match's lone goal in the 69th minute on a cross from sophomore forward Nate Whitehurst. Maric kicked the ball over the out-stretched arms of Anderson goalkeeper Andy Barth. L-R freshman Tom Gott in his first collegiate contest, stopped a pair of shots and picked up the shutout victory.
