KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – By slashing 14 strokes off its first-round score, the Anderson women's golf team vaulted from seventh place into a share of fourth place at the conclusion of the Barton Invitational on Sunday afternoon, which was hosted by the Bulldogs at the par-72 5,845 yard, Kiawah Island Resort Oak Point course.
Florida Southern won the team title by three strokes over Wingate, with Tusculum remaining in third place, six shots off the pace. The Trojans moved from seventh into a tie for fourth alongside Lenoir-Rhyne. UNC Pembroke slipped from fourth into sixth place, while Limestone claimed the seventh spot.
Lincoln Memorial finished eighth and Newberry was ninth, with Queens and Belmont Abbey finishing 10th and 11th, respectively.
Catawba, Converse, Barton, Southern Wesleyan and Chowan rounded out the 16-team field.
Madison Corley of UNCP defeated Dominika Czudkova of Lincoln Memorial on the first hole of sudden death to earn individual medalist honors.
Freshman Anna Freeman and sophomore Kate Hill paced the Trojans by carding two-day, 12-over-par 156s and tied for 10th place. Junior Samantha Ellison claimed a share of 26th place after a two-round 161, while senior Riley Lovorn (165) finished in a tie for 36th. Junior Tiffany Elam finished in a tie for 46th after notching a 169.
The Trojans are scheduled to get back on the links, Feb. 19-20, at the Converse Spring Invitational.
