Women’s Golf Makes Leap in National Rankings

ANDERSON, S.C. – In the midst of a successful fall season, the Anderson University women's golf team vaulted several spots in the most recent Golfstat national rankings, as released on Tuesday.

After winning the AU Invitational in mid-September and finishing a strong third at last week's Patsy Rendleman Invitational, the Trojans lept from 52nd last summer to a No. 37 ranking by Golfstat.

In the highly-competitive South Atlantic Conference, the Trojans trail just 18th-ranked Wingate and are ranked ahead of Queens (44th), Carson-Newman (47th),
Lenoir-Rhyne (48th), Tusculum (57th), Lincoln Memorial (64th), Coker (74th), Catawba (103rd), Newberry (104th) and Mars Hill (N/R).

With a pair of tourneys left on their fall slate, sophomore Kate Hill leads the team with a 75.00 stroke average and has paced the Trojans in both fall tournaments with a second-place finish and a share of 13th place, while carding a season-low 74 in the second round of the AU Invitational.

Junior Tiffany Elam has a 78.50 stroke average through two tourneys and fired a season-best 75 in the second round of the AU Invitational, while finishing in a tie for fifth at the AU Invitational and sharing 16th place at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

Senior Riley Lovorn has averaged a 79.00, while finishing in a tie for seventh and 20th, respectively. Freshman Anna Freeman also shared seventh place at the AU Invitational, with junior Samantha Ellison capturing a 10th-place finish at the AU Invitational.

The squad wraps up its schedule by competing in the Flagler Fall Slam on Monday and Tuesday and the South Atlantic Conference Preview, Oct. 30-31.
