ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Paced by senior Riley Lovorn's 3-over-par-75, the Anderson women's golf team is in 13th place following opening-round action, Monday at the Flagler Fall Slam.
The 36-hole event is being hosted by the Saints at the 6,062 yard, par-72 Marsh Creek Country Club.
Barry, the two-time defending champion, leads Tampa and Wingate by one stroke heading onto Tuesday's final round, with Limestone and St. Edwards hovering in fourth place, six shots further back. The host Saints are alone in sixth place, while Tarleton State and Lee are seventh and eighth, respectively.
Embry-Riddle, Montevallo and Queens share the ninth spot, with Seminole State in 12th. The Trojans are 13th, with UNC Pembroke, Columbus State, Eckerd, Eastern Florida State and Mars Hill rounding out the 18-team field.
The Wingate duo of Cristina Casanella and Diana McDonald, along with Tampa's Kiira Riihijarvi all fired 1-under-par 71s and lead the chase for individual honors by one shot over five other golfers. Fourteen additional golfers are just three shots off the pace.
Lovorn is in an eight-way tie for 23rd, just four strokes behind the leaders, after equaling her season-low score. Sophomore Kate Hill shares 31st place with eight others following a 4-over-par 76, while junior Makalyn Poole is tied for 64th place after carding an 81.
Junior Tiffany Elam shares 73rd place following an opening-round 82, with freshman Anna Freeman (84) and junior Samantha Ellison (88) tied for 80th and 86th, respectively.
Tuesday's second round is slated to get underway at 8 a.m.
