COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sophomore Kate Hill's two-day 10-over-par 154 lifted the Anderson women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Newberry College Invitational on Tuesday.
The two-day tourney was hosted by the Wolves at the 5,830 yard, par-72 Members Club at Woodcreek.
The top two teams remained unchanged following Tuesday's final round, as Florida Southern won the two-day tournament by six strokes over Wingate. With four golfers slicing four strokes from their first-round scorecards, the Trojans jumped from fourth and claimed the third spot, while finishing five shots in front of North Georgia. Lincoln Memorial fell from third to fifth, with Queens, Newberry and Mars Hill rounding out the eight-team field.
Wingate's Diana McDonald overcame a three-shot deficit to win individual medalist honors by one stroke over North Georgia's Megan Sabol and finished three strokes in front of Florida Southern's Ashley Zagers and teammate Laura Nunez Rodriguez.
Hill trimmed four strokes off her opening-round scorecard and moved up four spots to finish in a tie for sixth, while junior Tiffany Elam and freshman Anna Freeman each slashed four strokes off Monday's first round and shared the 10th spot. Junior Makalyn Poole finished in a tie for 19th after bettering her first-round effort by four strokes, as well. Senior Riley Lovorn posted a two-day 170 and wrapped up the tourney in a share of 34th place.
