ELGIN, S.C. – Sophomore Kate Hill carded a 7-over-par 79 and remains just one stroke behind the leaders, as the Anderson women's golf team is tied for second place after 36 holes of the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship.
The three-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by Newberry at the 5,830-yard, par-72 The Members Club at Woodcreek layout.
No. 15 Wingate leads Anderson and 30th-ranked Tusculum by 19 shots following Monday's second round, with the Trojans bidding to post their highest finish since joining the conference in 2011. Queens is four strokes further back in fourth place, with Coker holding the fifth spot. Lincoln Memorial and Carson-Newman are sixth and seventh, respectively, while Lenoir-Rhyne, the defending champion, is eighth.
Newberry, Catawba and Mars Hill finished out the 11-team field.
Queens' Cameron Smith and Wingate's Warissa Puangcharoen are tied for first place in the logjam atop the individual leaderboard, with both players carding two-day, two-round 10-over-par 154s. Hill and Tusculum's Cydney Murrell are tied for third - just one stroke behind the leaders - while an additional six golfers are within six shots of Smith and Puangcharoen entering Tuesday's final round.
Freshman Anna Freeman shares ninth place, while junior Samantha Ellison and senior Riley Lovorn are tied for 30th place. Junior Tiffany Elam is tied for 35th place.
Tuesday's final round is slated to get underway at 8:30 a.m.
