Women’s Golf in Fourth Place Following Opening Round of Patsy Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. – In its first action since winning the AU Invitational in mid-September, the Anderson women's golf team is in fourth place following first-round action Monday at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

The two-day tournament is being hosted at the 5,793 yard, par-72 Country Club of Salisbury layout.

Lenoir-Rhyne leads the 17-team field by five shots over Limestone, while Queens is just one shot further back. The Trojans, who finished sixth a year ago, are in fourth place, while Tusculum and North Georgia share fifth place. Young Harris is seventh, while Carson-Newman and Catawba are eight and ninth, respectively.

Erskine is 10th, with Belmont Abbey holding the 11th spot. King, Coker, North Greenville, Barton, Chowan and Pfeiffer rounded out the first-round standings.

North Greenville's Savannah Hallman fired a 2-under-par 70 and leads the 36-hole event by one shot over North Georgia's Megan Sabol. Lenoir-Rhyne's Abbey Hartsell and King's Nicola Robertson each carded even-par 72s and share third place. AU junior Makalyn Poole, who finished 31st a year ago, is just three shots off the pace after posting a season-best 1-over-par 73 and is in a five-way tie for fifth.

Sophomore Kate Hill finished ninth here a year ago and is on her season average after carding a first-round 75. The Clemson, S.C., native sits in an eight-way logjam for 15th place. Junior Tiffany Elam, who finished sixth a year ago, notched a season-low 77 on Monday and is tied for 28th heading into the final day. Senior Riley Lovorn also carded a season-best with an opening-round 78 and is looking to improve on her 55th place finish a year ago, while sitting in a tie for 33rd. Junior Samantha Ellison is tied for 45th after carding an 80, alongside freshman Anna Freeman who also posted a first-round 80 and is tied for 45th, as well.

The second round is scheduled for Tuesday.
