ANDERSON, S.C. – Sophomore Kate Hill fired a two-day 6-over-par 150 to lead the Anderson women's golf team to the AU Invitational team title by one stroke over Lincoln Memorial, Tuesday at the 5,825 yard, par-72 Cobb's Glen Country Club layout.
Prior to Tuesday, the host Trojans' (321-317=638) highest finish was second behind then-freshman Makalyn Poole's winning effort in 2015. The Lady Railsplitters claimed runner-up status for the second straight year after winning the tournament in 2015.
Lincoln Memorial (325-314=639) was a comfortable 32 shots in front of Erskine (336-335=671), with King (353-334=687) finishing in fourth place.
Lincoln Memorial senior Dominika Czudkova led the two-day event wire-to-wire, while carding a two-day 5-over-par 149 to hold off Hill by a single shot. Hill recorded three birdies on Tuesday and reached par on 10 holes for the second straight day, but was unable to overcome Czudkova's two-stroke lead heading into Tuesday's final round. LMU's Lise Malherbe finished third after posting a two-day 158.
AU junior Tiffany Elam paced the field by reaching par on 21 holes over the course of the two-day event, while junior Samantha Ellison reached par on 20 holes. Elam finished in a tie for fifth after firing a 162, while senior Riley Lovorn (81-82=163) shared seventh place with sophomore Anna Freeman (83-80=163).
Ellison finished alone in 10th place following a two-round 167, while Poole (89-84=173) was 17th. Junior Blake Hodges rounded out the Trojan contingent with a two-day 187.
Following a three-week layoff, the Trojans will get back on the links, Monday, Oct. 9 at Catawba's Patsy Rendleman Invitational.
