Women’s Golf Set for Fall Finale at Newberry Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson women's golf team is scheduled to wrap up its fall campaign, Monday and Tuesday at the Newberry College Invitational, which will be hosted by the Wolves at the Members Club at Woodcreek in Columbia, S.C.

The Newberry Invitational was a late addition to AU's slate after the Illinois Springfield Island Getaway at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar in Puerto Rico was canceled following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Maria. The 36-hole tournament is scheduled for 18 holes on Monday, followed by a final round of 18 on Tuesday. Teams will tee off beginning at 8:30 a.m. both days.

The Trojans, who were ranked 59th nationally in the latest Golfstat rankings,   are coming off a 14th-place showing at the Flagler Fall Slam. The 18-team field in St. Augustine featured seven Top-25 teams, including No. 6 Barry, which won the two-day event.

Sophomore Kate Hill led the Trojans with a 42nd-place finish at Flagler, while freshman Anna Freeman claimed a share of 62nd place. Senior Riley Lovorn and junior Makalyn Poole finished in a tie for 66th, with junior Tiffany Elam sharing 68th place. Classmate Samantha Ellison tied for 81st.

With three tournaments in the books, Hill leads the Trojans with a 75.83 stroke average and carded a season-low 74 in the second round of the AU Invitational en route to a second-place finish at Cobb's Glen. Elam has a 79.33 stroke average through three tourneys and fired a season-best 75 in the second round of the AU Invitational, while finishing in a tie for fifth at the AU Invitational and sharing 16th place at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

Senior Riley Lovorn has a 79.50 stroke average and finished in a tie for seventh and 20th, respectively, at the AU Invitational and the Rendleman Invite.

Freshman Anna Freeman also shared seventh place at the AU Invitational, with junior Samantha Ellison capturing a 10th-place finish at the AU Invitational. Poole notched the squad's best round of the season with a 73 on the first day of the Rendleman Invitational.
