Women’s Golf Second after Day One of Converse Spring Invitational

ROEBUCK, S.C. – Led by junior Tiffany Elam's 5-over-par 77, the Anderson women's golf team is in second place following first-round action at the Converse Spring Invitational, which is being hosted by the Valkyries at the par 72 5,881-yard Carolina Club layout.

Lee is in first place and holds an 18-stroke advantage on the Trojans, while Catawba and Trevecca Nazarene are tied for third, seven shots behind AU. Converse and North Greenville share fifth place, while Erskine, King and Brevard round out the nine-team field.

Limestone's Reme Cortez holds a three-stroke lead in the chase for individual medalist honors after carding a first-round 71, with Lee's Haverly Harrold firing a 2-over-par 74 on Monday.

Elam is in a five-way tie for fifth place, while sophomore Kate Hill is alone in 10th place following a first-round 78. Freshman Anna Freeman shares 19th place after an 11-over-par 83 and senior Riley Lovorn is tied for 25th following an 84. Junior Samantha Ellison (91) is tied for 37th.

Tuesday's second round is slated to get underway at 10 a.m.
