Women’s Golf Posts School-Record 295; Leads Pfeiffer Invitational by Two Shots

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Buoyed by a school-record opening-round 295, the Anderson women's golf team leads the Pfeiffer Invitational, which is being hosted by the Falcons at the at the 5,800 yard, par-72 Hilton Head Lakes Golf Club layout.

While bidding to win their second tourney of the year after claiming the AU Invitational back in September, the Trojans captured their second school record of the season after carding a 300 in the second round of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational last October.

The Trojans lead Newberry by two strokes and are three shots in front of third-place Erskine. Randolph-Macon is in fourth place, with Bridgewater College holding the fifth slot. Stevenson, Mars Hill, Pfeiffer, Simpson, Sandhills and Emory & Henry wrapped up the 11-team field.

Pfeiffer's Meghan Holbrooks leads the chase for individual medalist honors after firing a 2-under-par 70, with Bridgewater's Christina Herbert and Newberry's Taylor Lance tied for second after carding even-par 72s on the day. AU junior Tiffany Elam and freshman Anna Freeman are just three shots off the pace with season-low 1-over-par 73s and sophomore Kate Hill (74) is just one stroke further back in a four-way tie for ninth.

AU senior Riley Lovorn carded a 3-over-par 75 and is tied for 13th entering Tuesday's final round, while junior Samantha Ellison posted a 5-over-par 77 and shares 17th place.

The second round is slated to get underway Tuesday morning.
