Softball Team Clobbers Claflin

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Melissa Carmichael was 2-for-3 with two RBI and had the game-ending hit in the sixth inning to lead the Anderson University Lady Trojans to a 9-1 victory over the Claflin Pantherettes and a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Smethers Field. In first game, Kayla Williams recorded a school single-game record eight RBI to lead the Lady Trojans to a 24-3 victory. Anderson's 24 runs is a single-game school record. Williams finished the first game 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a three-run home run. Carmichael also helped lead the Lady Trojans by going 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Stephanie Griffis picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Trojans. In second game, the Pantherettes got on the scoreboard first with an unearned run in the second inning, but the Lady Trojans responded with four runs in the third on three doubles and three singles to make it 4-1. With one out and a runners on second and third, the Pantherettes attempted to intentionally walk Carmichael to load to bases, but Carmichael hit a pitch into right field that scored Allison Cromer from third to end the game. Donya Cobb picked up the win for the Lady Trojans in five innings of work by allowing just four hits and one unearned run. Brittany Gary added to the Anderson attack by going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. The sweep improves Anderson's record to 22-11 overall. Anderson will play host to CVAC rival Erskine Thursday at 4 p.m. Anderson University Softball Season Statistics
