AU, SWU Split Softball Doubleheader

ANDERSON, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan first baseman Ashlee Barber snagged a line drive and turned into a game-ending double play to give the Warriors a 6-5 victory over Anderson University and a split of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Smethers Field. In the first game, Anderson broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead and cruised to a 7-0 victory. After getting shutout in the first game, the Warriors scored two runs in the first and three in the second. Jessica McClain hit a two-run homer in the first, and Brittany Alexander had a two-run triple in the second. Anderson got three runs in the first on a three-run homer by Kayla Thrasher. Trailing 6-3 in the sixth, Anderson got a two-run homer from Allison Cromer to cut the deficit to 6-5. The Lady Trojans loaded the bases after Cromer's homer but could not push across the tying run. In the bottom of the seventh, Anderson had runners on first and second with one out, but a line drive by Kasey King was snagged by Barber, who stepped on first base to end the game. The Lady Trojans outhit the Warriors, 11-8 in the second game. Anderson had four doubles in the fourth inning of the first game. King had a three-run double and Meredith Knox, Thrasher, and Ashley Rogers all provided run-scoring doubles in the inning. Rogers allowed just two hits in five innings to pick up the victory, her 10th of the season. Five of Anderson's seven hits in the first game were doubles. Anderson is now 19-10 overall. Anderson plays at Queens University of Charlotte on Thursday. Anderson University Softball Season Statistics
