Softball Team Splits With Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Anderson University and Coker split their first CVAC doubleheader of the season Saturday afternoon. Coker won the first game, 2-0, while Anderson won the second game, 6-4. Coker is now 8-3 overall, and 1-1 in the CVAC, while Anderson is 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the CVAC. The first game was a pitchers' duel between Anderson's Ashley Rogers and Coker's Somer Bigham. Bigham (6-2) earned the win, allowing four hits, with six strikeouts. Rogers (2-3) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits. Leading the Coker hitters was Allie Bragg, who was 1-for-1 with an RBI and two walks, while Jamie Horton was 1-for-3 with an RBI. For Anderson, Kayla Thrasher was 2-for-3 with a triple, while Stephanie Griffis was 1-for-3 with a double. In the second game, both teams go on the board early. Anderson scored two runs on two hits in the first inning. The Cobras answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom half of the first to take a 3-2 lead. Anderson added two more runs in the second on three hits for a 4-3 lead. In the fifth inning, the Trojans added two runs on two hits. Coker scored a single run in its half of the fifth, the final run of the game. Bigham (6-3) took the loss, throwing another complete game, allowing six runs on 11 hits, with four strikeouts. Stephanie Griffis (1-1) earned the win, allowing four runs on 10 hits, with eight strikeouts. Katie McCauley was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored to lead the Cobras, while Kimberly Atkinson was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Meredith Knox was a perfect 4-for-4 for Anderson, with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Ellen Steele and Kayla Williams both hit home runs in the second game.
