Trojan Women Finish Fourth; Men Claim Sixth at SAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

HICKORY, N.C. - The Anderson University women's track and field team finished fourth at the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Championships, while the men's squad claimed sixth place on Saturday.

In Friday's late events, junior Brooklyn Watkins finished seventh in the finals of the women's javelin throw with a distance of 34.82 meters, with sophomores Grace Gerlock (40:42.46) and Mia Swierzs (41:09.38) placing fourth and sixth, respectively, in the women's 10000 meter run. Sophomore Ned Kennedy finished 10th in the men's 10000 meter run.

Junior D'Yandra Morris won the women's shot put with a toss of 12.26 meters, with sophomore Sherin Malone taking 12th with a distance of 9.73 meters. Senior Savanna Keese placed 16th with a toss of 9.39 meters. Malone captured first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.72 and seventh in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:33.07. Keese took home seventh place in the discus throw with a toss of 30.91 meters, while Morris placed 12th with a distance of 27.39 meters.

Senior Sydney Hazel (4:48.31) and sophomore Bari Robinson (5:00.87) finished second and sixth, respectively in the 1500 meter run. Hazel claimed the second spot in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:20.14, with sophomore Bari Robinson taking ninth in a time of 2:34.43.

Sophomore Olivia Gardner (18:36.03) finished second in the women's 5000 meter run, with Gerlock (19:39.71) and Amber Worthy (20:00.97) claiming ninth and 14th, respectively. Swierzs (20:11.72) and freshman Allison Halperin (20:47.60) grabbed the 16th and 20th slots, respectively.

The combination of Hazel, Jill Baxter, Alex Dixon and Robinson finished sixth.

Freshman Anthony Aleruchi finished fifth in the men's shot put with a toss of 12.99 meters, while taking the fifth spot in the men's discus throw with a distance of 38.90 meters.

Freshman Christopher Burton was fourth in the men's triple jump with a distance of 13.49 meters, while sophomore Eric Hoover (12.75 meters) and freshman Joseph Siegwald (11.74 meters) claimed eighth and 15th, respectively. Burton also claimed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.63.

Sophomore Philip DeGraaf brought home second place in the pole vault with a height of 3.80 meters, with freshman Mason Hazel claiming fifth in the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:03.25. Hazel finished seventh in the 5000 meter run in a time of 15:45.31, with freshman Caleb Stephenson finishing fifth in the finals of the 400 meter dash, with a time of 49.88.

Junior Joshua Visi-Clark finished third in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:55.62, while Burton (21.59) and Stephenson (22.32) claimed second and seventh, respectively in the 200 meter dash.

Sophomores Michael Burch, Ben Boerma and Ned Kennedy finished 18th, 20th and 21st, respectively in the 5000 meter run.

The combination of freshman T.J. Robinson, Stephenson, Siegwald and Burton placed second in the 4x100 relay in a time of 41.87.

Next up on the schedule for the Trojans is a visit to the City of Brotherly Love for the Penn Relays, April 23-25.
