Track and Field Heads to the Bluegrass State for Two-Day University of the Cumberlands Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. - After a two-week layoff, the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams continue their outdoor schedules by traveling to southern Kentucky to compete in the University of the Cumberlands Invitational for the second time in three seasons on Friday and Saturday.

Two years ago in Williamsburg, the men's team finished sixth, while the women's squad posted a seventh-place finish. Joshua Visi-Clark posted a second-place finish in the 800 meter run, while Sydney Hazel placed third in the women's 1,500 meter run. Jill Baxter won the high jump and posted a fifth-place finish in the 400 meter dash. D'Yandra Morris finished 10th in the discus throw, with Savanna Keese placing 12th. Morris also finished sixth in the shot put, with Keese earning 12th. Brooklyn Watkins placed ninth in the javelin throw.

The women's squad finished eighth at the Emory Classic two weeks ago, while the men's squad placed 11th. Watkins won the javelin throw to pace the Trojans on the first day, while sophomore Sherin Malone placed sixth and teammate Ali Caldwell finished eighth in the women's 400 meter hurdles.

Sophomore Olivia Gardner and freshman Alex Dixon claimed seventh and eighth, respectively in the 3000 meter steeplechase, while Keese claimed ninth and Morris placed 15th in the hammer throw. Morris also brought home fifth in the shot put. Morris and Keese claimed 24th and 25th in the women's discus throw, with Watkins finishing 31st.

Hazel led the Trojans in the women's seeded 1500 meter run, with sophomore Bari Robinson taking 10th. Robinson also finished 16th in the 800 meter run. Sophomore Lauren Averitt finished 24th in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash, with Baxter taking 28th place in the finals of the 400 meter dash. Sophomore Sherin Malone finished second in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles, while Caldwell finished 15th.

Sophomore Mia Swierzs finished 20th in the finals of the women's seeded 5000 meter run, with freshman Allison Halperin and sophomore Amber Worthy crossing the line in 25th and 38th place, respectively.

Sophomore Eric Hoover took home second place and teammate Philip DeGraaf claimed third in the javelin throw in Atlanta, while sophomore Jesse Patrick crossed the line in ninth in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Freshman Christopher Burton claimed 11th in the finals of the high jump, with sophomore Jonathan Shorter capturing 13th in the finals of the men's 400 meter hurdles. Freshman Joseph Siegwald tied for 28th in the finals of the long jump with a distance of 5.47 meters.

Freshman Mason Hazel finished sixth in the finals of the seeded 5000 meter run, with sophomores Ben Boerma, Ned Kennedy and Michael Burch claiming 23rd, 28th and 34th, respectively. Burton earned third place in the men's 100 meter dash finals, while sophomore Jonathan Shorter was 11th in the preliminaries of the 110 meter hurdles. Freshman Anthony Aleruchi finished 18th in the discus throw, with Hoover taking 21st.

The men's seeded 1500 meter run saw Patrick claim 31st and Hoover appear as 43rd. Freshman Caleb Stephenson earned seventh place in the 400 meter dash, with Visi-Clark finishing eighth in the 800 meter run. Burton, T.J. Robinson and Siegwald finished seventh, 26th and 29th, respectively in the 200 meter dash. The combination of Robinson, Stephenson, Siegwald and Burton claimed fourth in the 4x100 meter relay.
