Track and Field Wraps up Competition at Emory Classic

ATLANTA - The Anderson University women's track and field team finished eighth at the Emory Classic, while the men's squad placed 11th following the second day of competition on Saturday.

Freshman Mason Hazel finished sixth in the finals of the seeded 5000 meter run in a time of 15:23.95, with sophomores Ben Boerma (16:07.53), Ned Kennedy (16:33.41) and Michael Burch (17:01.97) claiming 23rd, 28th and 34th, respectively.

Freshman Christopher Burton earned seventh place in the men's 100 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 11.01 to qualify for the finals, then claimed third in the finals with a time of 10.84. Sophomore Jonathan Shorter was 11th in the preliminaries of the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 18.54.

The men's unseeded 1500 meter run saw sophomore Jesse Patrick claim 21st in a time of 4:21.92 and sophomore Eric Hoover finish 33rd with a time of 4:56.80. Patrick then show as 31st in the seeded 1500 meter run with the 4:21.92 time. Hoover appeared as 43rd in the seeded 1500 meter run with the 4:56.80 time.

Freshman Caleb Stephenson earned seventh place in the 400 meter dash in a time of 50.89, with junior Joshua Visi-Clark finishing eighth in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:59.58. Burton (22.84), T.J. Robinson (23.87) and Joseph Siegwald (24.03) finished seventh, 26th and 29th, respectively in the 200 meter dash.

The combination of Robinson, Stephenson, Siegwald and Burton claimed fourth in the 4x100 meter relay. Freshman Anthony Aleruchi finished 18th in the discus throw with a distance of 37.54 meters, with Hoover taking 21st with a toss of 34.88 meters.

Senior Sydney Hazel crossed the line in a time of 4:45.98 in the women's seeded 1500 meter run, with sophomore Bari Robinson taking 10th with a time of 4:56.76. Robinson also finished 16th in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:27.13

Sophomore Lauren Averitt finished 24th in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.60, with senior Jill Baxter taking 28th place in the finals of the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:08.68 and junior D'Yandra Morris claiming fifth in the shot put with a toss of 11.25 meters.

Sophomore Sherin Malone finishing fourth in the 100 meter hurdle preliminaries in a time of 15.41 to qualify for the finals, while freshman Ali Caldwell (18.30) finished 15th. Malone followed up by claiming second in the finals in a time of 15.25. Sophomore Mia Swierzs (19:34.05) finished 20th in the finals of the women's seeded 5000 meter run, with freshman Allison Halperin (19:51.36) and sophomore Amber Worthy (20:28.88) crossing the line in 25th and 38th place, respectively.

Morris (27.02 meters) and senior Savanna Keese (26.02 meters) claimed 24th and 25th in the women's discus throw, with teammate Brooklyn Watkins finishing 31st with a toss of 22.09 meters.

The Trojans return to action on April 10-11 at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational.
