Track and Field Finishes Day One of Bob Pollock Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. - With freshman standout Mason Hazel claiming a win in the men's 5000 meter run and the Trojans posting 12 additional top-10 finishes, the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the first day of action at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational on Friday at the Tigers' Indoor Facility.

Hazel won the 5000 meter run in a school-record time of 15:12.04, while sophomore Ned Kennedy finished seventh in a time of 16:33.66. Sophomore Jonathan Shorter brought home sixth place in the 60 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 9.80, with the freshman duo of Caleb Stephenson (52.21) and Rashod Monts (53.05) shaving more than a second and nearly a half-second off their season-best times to claim sixth and 16th, respectively in the 400 meter dash. Sophomore Jonathan Shorter claimed 21st in a time of 55.43.

Sophomore Michael Burch trimmed nearly 19 seconds off his previous effort by finishing fourth in the 3000 meter run in a time of 9:56.65, with freshman Joseph Siegwald posting a time of 24.20 to place 15th in the 200 meter dash.

Freshman Christopher Burton (5.89 meters), sophomore Eric Hoover (5.80 meters) and Siegwald (5.78 meters) finished 16th, 17th and 18th, respectively in the long jump. Fellow freshman Anthony Aleruchi finished 15th in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 11.76 meters.

On the women's side, senior Savanna Keese (15.29 meters) and junior D'Yandra Morris (13.09 meters) each posted season-best efforts en route to finishing fourth and eighth, respectively in the weight throw. Sophomore Amber Worthy (11:35.13) trimmed more than 14 seconds off her previous effort to claim eighth in the 3000 meter run, with freshman Allison Halperin (12:11.34) shaving more than 17 seconds off her previous time in the 3000 meter and brought home 11th place.

Sophomore Sherin Malone notched a season-best time in the 60 meter hurdles to claim fourth in a time of 9.19, while classmate Bari Robinson was more than three seconds faster than two weeks ago in the 800 meter run, as she captured seventh in a time of 2:26.76. Freshman Taylor Morris posted a time of 2:32.29 to finish 15th in the event.

Newcomer Ali Caldwell finished 25th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:10.78, with freshman Alex Dixon pacing the Trojan effort in the 5000 meter run in a time of 19:05.81. Sophomores Mia Swiersz (19:54.03) and Grace Gerlock (20:24.74) garnered ninth and 12th, respectively.

Senior Sydney Hazel, along with Malone, Robinson and Dixon captured fifth in the distance medley in a time of 13:12.96.

The second day of action is slated to begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put.
