Track and Field Heads to Atlanta this Weekend

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams are scheduled to continue their outdoor slate by competing in the Emory Classic for the fifth time in six years on Friday and Saturday.

Two years ago in Atlanta, Jill Baxter finished second in the high jump, while teammate D'Yandra Morris captured seventh in the hammer throw. Morris also placed fourth in the shot put, with Savanna Keese notching 16th.

Sydney Hazel notched ninth place in the 1500 meter run, with Devan Fisher placing 31st. Baxter also captured 20th place in the 100 meter hurdles.

Joshua Visi-Clark is the lone Trojan on the men's squad that competed in Atlanta two years ago, with the Lake Worth, Fla., native finishing 15th in the 800 meter run.

The Trojans opened their respective outdoor seasons by posting 12 top-10 finishes on the first day of competition at the Coastal Carolina Invitational two weeks ago and earned 11 top-20 finishes on the second day at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

Competing unattached, former Trojan standout and current assistant coach Whitney Bishoff won the 5000 meter run by nearly 10 seconds, while sophomore Olivia Gardner claimed seventh in the event. The combination of freshmen Alex Dixon and Taylor Morris, alongside sophomore Bari Robinson and senior Sydney Hazel, captured sixth in the 4x800 meter relay, with freshman Ali Caldwell claiming the seventh spot in the 400 meter hurdles, while also placing 15th in the 100 meter hurdles.

Junior Lauren Averitt brought home 10th in the 100 meter dash, while redshirt junior Brooklyn Watkins claimed 15th in the women's javelin throw. Morris took home 20th place in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 34.54 meters and Baxter captured 22nd in the 400 meter dash. Sophomores Grace Gerlock and Mia Swierzs captured fourth and fifth respectively in the 10,000 meter run.

Keese placed 40th in the discus throw, with Morris claiming 27th in the shot put. Sophomore Amber Worthy captured 11th in the 3000 meters, with classmate Sherin Malone taking 22nd place in the 100 meter hurdles. Freshman Taylor Morris earned 21st in the 800 meter run, with Hazel bringing home eighth in the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:54.45. Robinson crossed the line in 18th with a time of 5:01.21. The freshman duo of Haylee Love and Alex Dixon finished 22nd and 31st, respectively.

On the men's side, freshman Mason Hazel earned fourth place in the 5000 meter run, with Michael Burch claiming 38th. Sophomore Jonathan Shorter finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles and 10th in the 100 meter hurdles. Sophomore Ned Kennedy crossed the line in sixth place in the 10,000 meter run, while sophomore Jesse Patrick claimed ninth in the men's 1500 meter run.

Freshman Joseph Siegwald and sophomore Eric Hoover finished 12th and 14th, respectively in the men's long jump, with Hoover also taking 31st in the javelin throw. Siegwald, along with fellow freshmen Caleb Stephenson, Christopher Burton and T.J. Robinson combined to bring home fifth place in the men's 4x200 meter relay.

Freshman Anthony Aleruchi claimed 12th in the discus throw, with sophomore Eric Hoover taking 36th. Sophomore Ben Boerma placed 18th in the men's 3000 meter run, with freshman Mason Hazel capturing sixth in the 1500 meter run.

The freshman tandem of Caleb Stephenson and Rashod Monts placed 17th and 43rd in the 400 meter dash, respectively. The duo of freshmen Christopher Burton and T.J. Robinson finished 12th and 29th, respectively in the 100 meter dash, with Burton claiming 18th in the 200 meter dash and Robinson taking 31st.

Visi-Clark was ninth in the 800 meter run, while sophomore Jesse Patrick crossed the line in 21st in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The combination of Robinson, Stephenson, Burton and Siegwald brought home fifth place in the 4x100 meter relay.

The field events are scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. with the men's hammer throw, while the men's 400 meter hurdles are set for 3 p.m.
