Trojan Track and Field Performances Rank among Region’s Best

NEW ORLEANS, La. - With East Tennessee State's Buccaneer Invitational on the horizon, the Anderson men's and women's track and field teams have posted some of the top marks in the Southeast Region through the second week of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings.

Freshman Mason Hazel's school-record setting first-place finish in a time of 15:12.04 in the men's 5000 meter run at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational currently ranks as the second-best performance in the region. His seventh-place finish in the mile run (4:22.27) is currently fifth.

Freshman Christopher Burton's 13.99 meter distance in the triple jump at Clemson is fifth, with Joshua Visi-Clark's season-best time of 2:01.09 in the 800 meter run classifies as the eighth-best outing in the region.

Sophomore Sherin Malone's season-best time of 9.19 in the 60 meter hurdles places her second on the region, while senior Savanna Keese's 15.29 meter toss in the weight throw earned her the second spot. Junior D'Yandra Morris's toss of 11.23 meters in the shot put is currently the seventh-best performance in the region.

Sophomore Bari Robinson's season-best time of 2:26.76 in the women's 800 meter run at Clemson ranks as the fifth-best outing in the southeast, while fellow sophomore Olivia Gardner's performances in the 3000 meters and mile run ranks fifth and seventh, respectively.

Freshman Alex Dixon paced the Trojan effort in the 5000 meter run in a time of 19:05.81, which currently ranks as the sixth-best time in the region.

Senior Sydney Hazel, along with Malone, Robinson and Dixon combined to capture fifth in the distance medley relay at Clemson in a time of 13:12.96, which ranks third in the southeast.

Anderson will get back in action this weekend at ETSU's Buccaneer Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn.
