Track and Field Wraps up First Day of SAC Championships

HICKORY, N.C. - Senior Savanna Keese won the women's hammer throw to highlight the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams' opening day at the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Championships on Friday.

Keese posted a distance of 44.97 meters to claim the title, while teammate D'Yandra Morris finished sixth with a toss of 37.74 meters. Sophomore Olivia Gardner placed third in the finals of the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:34.80, with freshman Alex Dixon taking ninth place in a time of 13:01.13.

Sophomore Bari Robinson qualified for the finals of the 1500 meter run by posting a time of 4:55.96, with senior Sydney Hazel also qualifying for Saturday's finals with a time of 4:51.54. The duo also qualified for the finals of the 800 meter run with times of 2:23.93 and 2:28.70, respectively.

Sophomore Sherin Malone posted a time of 14.96 in the 100 meter hurdles to reach Saturday's finals and also qualified in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.94.

On the men's side, sophomore Eric Hoover finished fifth in the finals of the javelin throw with a toss of 42.25 meters, while fellow sophomore Philip DeGraaf placed ninth with a distance of 39.26 meters. Sophomore Jesse Patrick claimed sixth in the finals of the 3000 meter steeplechase, with freshman Christopher Burton finishing in a tie for 17th in the high jump with a height of 1.69 meters.

The prelims of the 200 meter dash saw Burton (21.91) and freshman Caleb Stephenson (22.24) each reach the finals, with Burton also qualifying in the 100 meter dash. Stephenson posted a qualifying time of 49.89 in the 400 meter dash.

Freshman Mason Hazel qualified for Saturday's finals in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:10.88, with junior Joshua Visi-Clark crossing the line in 1:56.80 in the 800 meter run.

Saturday's events are slated to begin at 10 a.m. with the men's shot put.
