School Records Fall at University of the Cumberlands Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Three new school records were set on the men's side and the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams won two events, while finishing as runners-up in five additional events at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Mason Hazel won the men's 1500 meter run in a time of 4:01.27, while the freshman quartet of T.J. Robinson, Caleb Stephenson, Joseph Siegwald and Christopher Burton set a new school record with a time of 41.88 in the men's 4x100 meter relay. Burton went on to set another school record with a time of 10.72 in the 100 meter dash. Newcomer Brelyn Alston-Barclay wasted little time in making an impact, setting a school record in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters in his debut with the Black and Gold.

Sophomore Ben Boerma crossed the line in 23rd in a time of 4:16.32 in the men's 1500 meter, while fellow sophomore Jesse Patrick posted a 24th-place finish with a time of 4:16.69. Sophomore Michael Burch earned 37th in a time of 4:29.48.

Sophomore Jesse Patrick crossed the line in 27th in a time of 54.62 in the men's 400 meter dash, with Robinson also claiming 16th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.33, while Burton finished 15th in the men's high jump with a height of 1.68 meters.

Senior Joshua Visi-Clark brought home eighth place in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.19, while sophomore Jonathan Shorter claimed 17th place with a time of 1:01.29 in the men's 400 meter hurdles. Stephenson (21.97) and Robinson (22.93) finished fifth and 13th, respectively in the 200 meter dash.

Sophomore Ned Kennedy claimed 17th in the men's 5000 meter run in a time of 17:09.44, with classmate Philip DeGraaf capturing 13th in the pole vault with a height of 3.65 meters. The men's triple jump saw Burton finish sixth with a distance of 12.65 meters, with teammate Eric Hoover placing eighth with a distance of 12.55 meters.

Freshman Anthony Aleruchi (39.90 meters) and Hoover (34.68 meters) claimed 11th and 24th, respectively in the discus throw, with Aleruchi also finishing 22nd in the shot put with a distance of 11.80 meters. Hoover and DeGraaf finished 10th and 11th in the javelin throw with fistances of 42.40 meters and 41.80 meters, respectively.

Sophomore Grace Gerlock finished as runner-up in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 19:38.39, while the women's 800 meter run saw senior Sydney Hazel (2:18.74) and sophomore Bari Robinson (2:20.52) finish back-to-back in second and third place, with freshman Alex Dixon claiming 16th in a time of 2:28.81. Junior Brooklyn Watkins earned second place in the javelin throw with a toss of 36.51 meters.

Sophomore Olivia Gardner led five Trojans with an eighth-place finish in the 1500 meter run in a time of 5:00.45, while freshman Haylee Love claimed ninth with a time of 5:01.89. Sophomore Mia Swierzs finished in 26th in a time of 5:19.04, with freshman Allison Halperin placing 28th in a time of 5:21.25. Sophomore Amber Worthy placed 38th with a time of 5:30.00.

Sophomore Sherin Malone claimed fourth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.89, while senior Jill Baxter took home 20th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:09.40 and sophomore Lauren Averitt captured 27th in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.77. Malone also garnered second place in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:07.78, with freshman Ali Caldwell (1:14.19) taking eighth place.

Senior Savanna Keese placed 19th in the discus throw with a toss of 31.83 meters, while finishing 18th in the shot put with a distance of 10.83 meters. She captured ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.78 meters.

Junior D'Yandra Morris claimed eighth in the shot put (12.17 meters), while taking home 15th with a toss of 36.20 meters in the hammer throw. Malone finished 33rd in the shot put with a distance of 9.92 meters.

Next up for the Trojans are the South Atlantic Conference Championships, which are slated for Friday and Saturday in Hickory, N.C.
