ANDERSON, S.C. -- Senior Nayte Russell, playing his first game of the season, made 5 of 7 from 3-point range and scored 22 points to lead Anderson University to an 86-69 victory over North Greenville in a non-conference game Tuesday night. Anderson, 3-5 overall, snapped halftime tie at 39 with a 17-4 run in the first eight and a half minutes of the second half for a 56-43 lead. North Greenville, 1-7 overall, got no closer than eight points the rest of the way. Russell, who missed the first semester because of an academic issue, made three treys in the first 10:04 of the second half to help fuel Anderson's rally. Russell was 8-for-12 from the field and also had four assists and two steals. Brandon Young added 18 points and Kris Fudzinskas chipped in 10 points for Anderson. North Greenville was led by Andrew Nipper with 22 points, Adam Griggs and Austin Randel with 14 apiece, and Nathan Wilson with 12. Both teams shot at a blistering pace in the first half. North Greenville shot 61 percent (13-21) to Anderson's 59 percent (16-27). There were six lead changes and five ties in the first half. Anderson led 31-19 with 6:36 remaining in the first half, but North Greenville rallied to tie the game at 34 with 1:21 to play. Nipper led the Crusader rally with six points. In the second half, Anderson's defense put the clamps on North Greenville. The Crusaders shot just 39 percent in the second half. Anderson shot 57 percent in the second half to finish with single-game season high of 58 percent (32-55). Anderson finished the game 11-for-21 from behind the arc to set new season highs for makes and attempts. Led by Kevis Cornwell's six assists, Anderson had a season-high 24 assists. The previous team high for assists was 10 against North Greenville on Nov. 17. Anderson's 86 points also is a season high. Anderson scored 25 points off 19 North Greenville turnovers. The Anderson bench outscored the North Greenville bench, 44-7. Anderson travels to Division I High Point Friday night.
