North Georgia Pulls Away In Second Half

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - North Georgia College and State University took an 11-point lead into the break and pulled away for a 71-56 win over Anderson University Monday night. The Saints took their first lead of the game on an Anthony Rowe lay-up with 12:08 left in the first half to make it an 11-9 game. After a basket by Anderson, Lee Burrell sank a three-pointer with 11:32 left to make it a four-point Saints lead at 15-11. Xavier Trice followed with a lay-up less than a minute later to extend the Saints lead to six at 17-11. The Saints led by seven points with a minute to play in the first half, but a jumper from R.J. Hofler and a lay-up by LaBrian Lyons with two seconds left gave North Georgia a 38-27 halftime lead. North Georgia, 2-2 overall, continued to extend its lead in the second half on a Matt Maddox three-pointer with 10:16 left in the game to give the Saints a 51-36 lead. The Saints led by as many as 17 points on a pair of free throws by Jakirra Milsap with 8:42 remaining. Lyons led all scorers with 14 points while Xavier Trice added 13. Rowe scored 11 while Burrell hit double-digits in points for the first time this year with 10. For Anderson, Jamelle Lowery and Jarrett Johnson each scored 11 points. North Georgia shot 44 percent from the field while limiting Anderson to 36 percent. North Georgia won the boards, 40-30.
