SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Paced by freshman Kate Hill's two-day 10-over-par 154, the Anderson women's golf team finished sixth at the Converse Spring Invitational, hosted by the Valkyries at the par-72, 5,881-yard Carolina Country Club layout.
The host Valkyries overcame a three-shot deficit to win the team title by four shots over first-round leader King. Lincoln Memorial was three shots further back, with Coker and Lenoir-Rhyne finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. The Trojans lept past North Carolina A&T and Tusculum for the sixth spot, with the Pioneers claiming seventh and Carson-Newman finishing eighth. North Carolina A&T was ninth, while Erskine remained in the 10th spot.
Catawba finished 11th, while Belmont Abbey and Trevecca Nazarene shared the 12th slot. Barton, Pfeiffer, Converse "B", Emmanuel, Chowan and Montreat rounded out the 19-team field.
Converse's Marley Felthousen claimed individual medalist honors, while leading the tourney wire-to-wire. She posted a two-day 149 to edge Trevecca Nazarene's Alexa Rippy by one stroke.
Anderson's Hill finished in a tie for fifth, with sophomore Makalyn Poole sharing ninth place with an 11-over-par 155. Sophomore Tiffany Elam finished in a tie for 27th with a two-day 163, while junior Riley Lovorn shared 60th place with a 173. Sophomore Blake Hodges rounded out the Trojan contingent by sharing 65th place with a two-round 175.
Following a two-week break, the Trojans will get back on the links at the Hilton Head Links Invitational.
