Women’s Golf to Wrap up Fall Slate in Puerto Rico

ANDERSON, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, the Anderson University women's golf team will close out its fall slate by competing at the Illinois Springfield Island Getaway, scheduled to be hosted by the Prairie Stars at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico on Monday and Tuesday.

The resort features a pair of golf courses, the Ocean Course designed by Tom and George Fazio, and the River Course, which was designed by Greg Norman.

Led by Makalyn Poole's 6-over-par 71 during the final round, the Trojans finished ninth a year ago. Poole finished the two-day event tied for 15th last year, with Tiffany Elam sharing the 39th slot. Riley Lovorn finished in a tie for 43rd, with Blake Hodges wrapping up the tourney in a tie for 51st.

The Trojans have finished third, fifth and sixth in their three tournaments this fall, with Elam posting a fifth-place finish at the AU Invitational in mid-September and tying for sixth place at last week's Patsy Rendleman Invitational. The native of Alpharetta, Ga., leads AU with a 77.83 stroke average this fall, while freshman Kate Hill has averaged a 78.17 through three tournaments.

Hill has a pair of top-10 finishes on her resume, sharing ninth place with Poole at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate and finishing alone in ninth place at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational. Poole owns a 78.67 stroke average this fall and has also posted a pair of top-10 finishes, tying for sixth at the AU Invitational and sharing ninth place at Myrtle Beach.
