Men’s and Women’s Golf Set for Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's and women's golf teams are set to continue their fall seasons by competing at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne and Lincoln Memorial at Ocean Ridge Plantation.

The two tournaments are set for a two-day, 36-hole event Monday and Tuesday with the men competing on the 7,020-yard, par 72 Panther's Run Course, while the women will play the 5,916-yard, par 72 Lion's Paw Course.

The women's tourney will feature an 18-team field, while the men's field is set with 16 squads.

None of the golfers on the current AU roster competed two years ago, when the Trojan women last competed at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate. AU posted a 16th-place finish in 2014 at Sea trail Plantation. The Black and Gold's best finish at the event came in 2010, when AU claimed eighth place.

Sophomore Tiffany Elam captured All-Tournament Team honors with a fifth-place finish at the AU Invitational three weeks ago after carding a two-day 13-over-par 157. The host Trojans finished third in the tourney, with fellow sophomore Makalyn Poole just behind in a tie for sixth place. Junior Riley Lovorn shared the 15th slot.

Freshman Kate Hill and junior Morgan Webb shared 17th place, with sophomore Samantha Ellison finishing tied for 32nd. Sophomore Blake Hodges placed 38th.

The men's squad last competed at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate in 2013 and finished in a tie for 14th after claiming 12th at the two-day even in the fall of 2010.

AU has not finished lower than fourth this season – earning fourth place outright at the AU Invitational and sharing fourth place at Queens.

Sophomores Grayson Bell and David Monroe, along with junior Forrest Fowler have combined for three top-seven finishes over the course of the two events this fall. Grayson Bell claimed a share of third place at the AU Invitational with a 3-over-par 147, while Monroe finished in a tie for seventh after carding a two-day 6-over-par 150. Fowler shared fourth place at the Queens Collegiate Invitational two weeks ago in Kannapolis, N.C., with a 4-over-par 146.

Fowler's first-round 69 marks the low round for AU through the two events, while Grayson Bell has posted a 75.50 stroke average on the year. Monroe is just behind with a 76.25 average through two tourneys.
