Women’s Golf Tied for Fourth Following First Round of Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Led by sophomore Makalyn Poole and freshman Kate Hill's season-low 5-over-par 77s, the Anderson University women's golf team is tied for fourth place following first-round action at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial and Lenoir-Rhyne at the 5,916-yard, par 72 Lion's Paw Course at Ocean Ridge Plantation.

West Georgia (299) leads the 16-team field by nine shots over both Lenoir-Rhyne and UNC Pembroke, with Wingate and Anderson four strokes further back after posting 312s. Coker (314) and Tusculum (314) share the sixth spot, with LMU (318) in eighth.

Newberry heads the second half of the field following a 324 on Monday, with Barton (327) and Mount Olive (330) in 10th and 11th, respectively. Belmont Abbey (331) and Emmanuel (331) are tied for 12th, while Virginia-Wise (351), Pfeiffer (352) and Sandhills Community College round out the field.

West Georgia's Maria Torres leads the chase for individual medalist honors by three shots over Tusculum's Ciara Rattana after firing a first-round 70 on Monday. West Georgia's Franziska Bremm and UNC Pembroke's Ashlii Thompson are one stroke further back after carding identical 2-over-par 74s.

Poole and Hill are in a 10-way tie for 12th, with junior Riley Lovorn sharing 22nd place after posting a 6-over-par 78. Sophomore Tiffany Elam carded an opening-round 80 and sits in an eight-way tie for 35th, while sophomore Blake Hodges (87) is tied for 68th entering Tuesday's final round.
