Women’s Golf Finishes Fifth at Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Sophomore Makalyn Poole and freshman Kate Hill each posted identical two-day 9-over-par 153s to pace the Anderson University women's golf team, as the Trojans finished fifth at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.

The two-day event was hosted by Lincoln Memorial and Lenoir-Rhyne at the 5,916-yard, par 72 Lion's Paw Course at Ocean Ridge Plantation.

West Georgia (608) led the 16-team field wire-to-wire and captured the team title by six shots over both Lenoir-Rhyne. Wingate (615) was one shot further back, with UNC Pembroke (616) in fourth. Anderson (623) finished three shots in front of Tusculum (626). Lincoln Memorial claimed seventh after a two-round 629 and Newberry finished in the eighth spot with a 636.

Coker, Mount Olive, Emmanuel, Belmont Abbey, Barton, Pfeiffer, Virginia-Wise and Sandhills Community College rounded out the field.

UNC Pembroke's Ashlii Thompson won individual medalist honors by one shot over West Georgia's Franziska Bremm.

Poole (77-76=153) and Hill (77-76=153) each posted personal low-rounds for the season during Tuesday's final round and finished the two-day tourney in a five-way tie for ninth. Junior Riley Lovorn (78-80=158) slipped three spots into a tie for 25th, while sophomore Tiffany Elam (80-79=159) was one shot further back and shared the 35th slot. Sophomore Blake Hodges (87-86=173) finished in a tie for 66th.

The Trojans will get back on the links Monday at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, which will be hosted by Catawba at the Country Club of Salisbury (N.C.).
