JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Senior pitcher Nick Wates and junior outfielder Jason Ratliff both were named to the second team on the 2003 South Atlantic All-Region team. Wates, a native of Edgefield, S.C., was AC's closer for two seasons. During the 2003 season, he was 6-2 with a 2.23 ERA and 12 saves. In 48 1/3 innings, Wates allowed 40 hits, 12 earned runs, struck out 51, and walked just 15. Ratliff, a native of Prosperity, S.C., led AC in batting with an average of .380. In 52 games, Ratliff had 15 doubles, five triples, one home run, and 44 RBI. Ratliff also scored 53 runs and stole 32 bases in 40 attempts.
