ANDERSON, S.C. - Alan Fricks pitched a four-hitter and survived an Anderson College rally in the seventh inning to lead Mount Olive to a 2-1 CVAC victory at Anderson Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Mount Olive, 30-19 overall and 17-9 in the CVAC, wins the conference regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in next weekend's CVAC Tournament at Wilson, N.C. The title is Mount Olive's third in the last five seasons. The loss, Anderson's fifth straight and its 11th straight to Mount Olive, drops the Trojans to 30-20, 14-10. Fricks' complete game was Mount Olive's second of the three-game series. Fricks struck out five, walked two, and allowed just four singles. In the final two games of the series, Anderson managed just one run and seven hits against Mount Olive. Anderson received a solid start from Jason Rutland, 5-3, who scattered eight hits and allowed just one earned run in seven innings. Mount Olive took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Rhett Summerford singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Herbie Mulqueen. From that point, Rutland retired 10 straight. But with two outs in the sixth, Stevie Parrish doubled to right then scored on a throwing error by Anderson shortstop Jared Taylor to increase the Mount Olive lead to 2-0. Parrish and Summerford had three hits apiece for Mount Olive. Anderson had just one hit in the first four innings. With one out in the fifth, Donavon Schmidt reached on an error and F.A. Vildosola walked. Schmidt advanced to third on a passed ball but was left stranded when Seth Thompson grounded out to end the inning. Anderson tried to rally again in the seventh. Jason Jones walked and Schmidt singled to start the inning. After Vildosola bunted the runners to second and third, Jones scored on a ground out by Joe Whitham. Thompson was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and third, but the rally died when Josh Wilson grounded out. Rutland gave up a lead off single by Brad Church in the eighth and was replaced by Nick Wates, who allowed a single by Parrish before striking out the side. Mount Olive threated the blow the game wide open in the ninth. Kevin Kolbeck, Summerford, and Mulqueen all reached on infield singles to load the bases with one out. But Wates struck out Church then picked up a grounder by Parrish and beat him to first base to end the inning. In the ninth, Anderson got a two-out single by Vildosola, but a ground out by Whitham ended the game and completed Mount Olive's three-game sweep of Anderson. Anderson plays host to Lander at 6 p.m. Monday. Game Statistics Season Statistics
