Anderson Rallies To Take Opener From Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Anderson College rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Pfeiffer 4-2 in a CVAC game Saturday afternoon. Trailing 2-0 after three innings, the Trojans scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to take a 3-2 lead. In the fourth, Jason Ratliff singled, stole second, and scored on two-out single by F.A. Vildosola. Anderson, 26-13 overall and 11-6 in the CVAC, tied the game at 2 in the fifth when Josh Wilson, who had walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice, scored on a double by Ratliff. The Trojans took the lead for good in the sixth on a double by Donavon Schmidt, a single by Vildosola, and a ground out by Whitham. Anderson added an insurance run in the eighth when Jason Jones singled, advanced to third on two errors, and scored on a ground out by Seth Thompson. Donnie Fetner, 4-2, earned the victory for Anderson. He pitched 7 1/3, struck out five, walked four, and allowed just six hits, all singles. Nick Wates struck out two and allowed no hits in 1 2/3 innings to pick up his ninth save of the season. Anderson had eight hits to six for Pfeiffer, and the Trojans had the only two extra base hits of the game -- doubles by Ratliff and Schmidt. Because of heavy rain in the morning, the two teams played just one game Saturday. The final two games of the series will be played on Sunday.
