Trojans Blast Erskine For 30th Victory

DUE WEST, S.C. -- Donavon Schmidt was 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI to lead Anderson College to a 13-4 rout of Erskine Monday afternoon. The victory improves Anderson to 30-15 overall and equals the Trojans' victory total from last season. The loss drops Erskine to 28-18. The Trojans banged out 15 hits against seven Erskine pitchers. Anderson scored in every inning except the second. Anderson opened the scoring in the first with three-run homer by Schmidt. The Trojans increased their lead to 5-0 in the third on a RBI single by Schmidt and an error that allowed Jason Jones to score the second run of the inning. After Erskine cut the Anderson lead to 6-4 in the fourth, the Trojans responded with a single run the fifth, two runs in the sixth, and two runs in the seventh. Jones provided an RBI single in the fifth. In the sixth, Jeremy McCauley scored on a balk, and Jared Taylor scored on a ground out. In the seventh, Schmidt and F.A. Vildosola had back-to-back doubles, and Vildosola scored on a single by Seth Thompson. Schmidt hit his second home run of the game and his seventh of the season in the eighth to increase the Anderson lead to 12-4, and Justin Sterling capped the AC scoring in the ninth with an RBI single. Nat McCarty (2-3) pitch seven innings to earn the victory for Anderson. McCarty allowed four hits, struck out seven, and walked three. Anderson will visit Kennesaw State Tuesday night.
