Defensive Effort Helps Trojans Cruise Past Queens; 67-45

Charlotte, N.C.—A strong defensive effort carries the Anderson University women's basketball team to victory over South Atlantic Conference opponent Queens, 67-45, on Saturday afternoon at Curry Arena. The Trojans improve to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in SAC play, while the Royals fall to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

"After a wild start to our day today, I couldn't be more proud of our effort, said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "We easily could have gotten frustrated and lost focus, but we didn't. After a quick 20 min warmup, we got to it."

"Defensively we played like we practiced and it was exciting to see," praised Barbaree. "I love looking at the stat line and seeing everyone contributing across the board. We finally decided to go rebound the way we are capable of on the offensive end."

KEY STATS

- Anderson held the Royals to 26.2% (16-of-61) from the field, including 14.3% (3-of-21) from behind the arc.
- The Trojans outrebounded Queens 56-40.
- The Black and Gold forced 25 turnovers, scoring 21 points off of the miscues.
- Anderson scored 38 points in the paint and 39 bench points.

KEY TROJANS

J'Mya Cutter had 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals coming off of the bench.
Britney Bailey scored 11 points, six rebounds and one assist in 19 minutes of action.
- Jalyn Spurlin contributed nine points, grabbed seven rebounds and one steal.
Alexis Tate had seven points, a career-high 14 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.
Samantha Michel chipped in seven points, pulled down seven rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals.

- The Trojans are 4-0 on the season when they outrebound their opponent.

FIRST QUARTER

- Neither team scored during the first two minutes of action.
- Anderson outscored the Royals, 16-9.
- AU's B. Bailey scored five of the Trojans final six points scored in the quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

- Freshman Kaitlin Bailey's jumper pushed the AU lead to nine at the 8:51 mark, while Bailey's 3-point basket at the 4:38 mark gave the Black and Gold a 14 point cushion.
- Cutter's jumper in the paint with 18 tick left gave AU its largest lead of the game, 36-18.

THIRD QUARTER

- Anderson outscored Queens 14-12 during the third stanza.
- Michel's made free throw with 56 seconds left gave AU its largest lead of the game, 50-28.

FOURTH QUARTER

-Largest lead of the game came at the 6:11 mark, after a made Michel jumper.
- Queens went scoreless over the final 1:40 seconds.
