Trojans Drop Road Contest at Carson-Newman; 75-62

Jefferson City, Tenn.— Anderson University women's basketball team dropped a South Atlantic Conference road contest to preseason favorite Carson-Newman, 75-62, on Wednesday evening at Holt Fieldhouse. The Trojans slip to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in SAC play, while the Eagles improve to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference action.

"I am really proud of our fight tonight, especially in the second half and playing even with them," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree.

"We are learning, as with any league, roads wins are tough to come by and you have to get a good start if you're going to get them," explains Barbaree.

"We will get back at it tomorrow to prepare for Saturday," added Barbaree.

 KEY STATS

- Carson-Newman shot 38.1% (eight-of-21), while AU shot 14.3% (two-of-14)
- The Eagles outrebounded the Trojans, 43-38
- AU had 19 miscues while forcing only 10 Eagle turnovers.

KEY TROJANS

Britney Bailey shared team-high honors with 13 points, while ripping down eight rebounds.
Jalyn Spurlin scored 13 points, three rebounds and two steals.
- Taylor Hair had 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
- McKenzie Gadson chipped in 10 points, one rebound and one assist.
- Ashley Berry contributed four points, five rebounds and four assists.

NOTES

- The Eagles snapped a four game losing streak with tonight's win.

FIRST QUARTER

- Anderson led 6-2 before going on a 3:12 scoring drought. Carson-Newman took advantage going on a 10-0 run over that period of time, 12-6.
- The Trojans went on a 6-0 taking a 13-12 lead with 3:05 to play.
-The Eagles closed out the quarter with a 10-2 run to carry a 22-15 lead into the second frame.

SECOND QUARTER

- Carson-Newman outscored AU, 17-11, to build a 39-26 halftime lead.
- B.Bailey sparked the Trojans, scoring nine points during the quarter. On two occasions, Bailey's baskets cut the lead to six.

THIRD QUARTER

- The Black and Gold played even with the Eagles, narrowly dropping the third quarter, 24-23.
- Hair and Spurlin each scored six points apiece in the third stanza.

FOURTH QUARTER

-Gadson led the fourth period with six points.
-AU outscored the Eagles, 13-12.

-J'Mya Cutter's layup with 5:07 left cut the Eagles lead to seven, before Carson-Newman used a 6-0 run to push the lead back to the final deficit.

UP NEXT

-The Trojans remain on the road to square off with SAC opponent Queens. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm on Saturday, Dec. 12th.
