Women’s Golf Moves up a Spot – Finishes 12th at Kiawah Island Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - As a team the Anderson women's golf team sliced 18 strokes off Saturday's opening round to finish 12th at the ninth annual Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, hosted by Tusculum College at the par 72, 5,800-yard Cougar Point Golf Club.

Sophomore Lindsay Parks (86-79) carded a final-round seven-over par 79 to move up eight spots to finish 47th, while rookie Katie Eskew (85-81) improved by four strokes to tie for 48th.

Junior Laura Buyers (89-81) led the charge for AU, trimming eight shots off her first-round 89 to claim a share of 54th. Fellow junior Kalyn Johnson (90-84) cut six strokes from Saturday's round and finished 61st, while senior Hayley Parks (83-97) shared the 69th spot.

Florida Southern rallied from nine strokes back to win the event. The Mocs, the second-ranked team in NCAA Division II posted the lowest team score in the final round with 300 to finish with a two-day total of 605, edging runner-up Rollins (No. 17 in NCAA II) by a stroke (296-310=606).

The Florida Southern duo of Emily Flanigan and Melanie Audette paced the final round rally as each carded 73. Flanigan and Audette also finished tied for first place with UNC Pembroke's Megan Moore at 147. Moore captured medalist honors on a scorecard playoff as she posted a two-day 75-72=147.

Rollins' Joanne Coe and Brianna Seo also earned spots on the All-Tournament Team as they tied for fourth place at 148. Columbus State's Kimesha Anthony also finished with 148, but Coe and Seo won the tie-break on a scorecard playoff.

Tournament host Tusculum made the biggest improvement of the field posting a final round 324 to shave 21 shots off its opening round to shoot 669 and finish 13th. Wingate was 14th with 676, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (679), Queens University of Charlotte (680) and Coker (762).

Florida Southern, who is the only multi-time winner in the nine-year history of this event, recorded its third Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate title (2008, 2009, 2011).

The 17-team field included five colleges and universities that are currently nationally ranked in the National Golf Coaches Association's Division II Top 25.

The Trojans have a break of three weeks before competing at the Ann Rhoads/Birmingham Southern Shootout.
