JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman scored three unanswered goals to defeat Anderson, 4-1, in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer Saturday afternoon at McCown Field.

With one regular-season conference contest remaining, Anderson (3-9-3, 3-4-1 SAC) has clinched a berth in the Food Lion SAC Tournament that begins on Tue., Oct. 30, and is battling for the fifth seed.

With Saturday's setback, the Trojans had their unbeaten streak halted at three, while
Carson-Newman (7-4-2, 5-1-2 SAC) extended its unbeaten streak to four by winning three of its last four outings.

The Eagles' Rurik Pereira scored in the fourth minute to give Carson-Newman a quick 1-0 lead, but senior Ben Jones answered for the Trojans less than six minutes later with his third goal of the season.

Carson-Newman's Joao Dowsley regained the lead for the Eagles with just 12 seconds remaining in the first half, while Lucas Siqueira gave C-N a 3-1 advantage in the 69th minute and Ariel Pimental closed out the scoring with a goal at the 76:54 mark.

Anderson senior goalkeeper Lukas Hesse recorded three saves while going the distance. Carson-Newman out-shot AU, 19-5, and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Trojans visit Francis Marion on Wednesday, then close out the regular season with a Homecoming Day contest versus Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
