SALISBURY, N.C. - The Anderson men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals, but was unable to outlast Catawba as the two teams battled to a 4-4 tie in the South Atlantic Conference opener for both teams Saturday night at Frock Field.

Anderson moved to 0-4-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference, while snapping Catawba's two-match win streak. The Indians' record stands at 3-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the league after the draw.

In just his second match in a black and gold uniform, sophomore Martin Brain scored the Trojans' first goal in the 22nd minute to give Anderson a brief 1-0 lead. However, Catawba answered quickly, as the Indians' Carson Smith found the back of the net less than four minutes later to even the score.

Trojan junior forward Eduardo Cabastani notched his first goal of the season in the 63rd minute to give the Trojans another one-goal advantage, but Catawba answered yet again, as Smith found teammate Kenny Bonilla for the game-tying score at the 69:13 mark.

Anderson's Felix Helgesson gave the Trojans another one-goal lead with his first goal of the season at 73:38, but it was short-lived as Catawba's Corey Faughnan followed with a score in the 75th minute to level the score at 3-3 with 15:55 remaining in the match.

Each team added a goal in the span of 27 seconds in the 88th minute, as Cabastani found sophomore Lars Zimmerman for his second score of the season to boost AU back to a 4-3 lead. Catawba's Bonilla connected with Luke Cooyman for the Indians' fourth goal of the night with just 2:27 on the clock, sending the match into overtime.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the extra 20 minutes, with AU recording three shots in the second overtime frame and Catawba registering one.

Anderson goalkeeper Lukas Hesse recorded four saves on the night, while Catawba net-minder Evan Harvey notched eight szaves.

The Trojans held a 17-10 advantage in shots and doubled up the Indians, 8-4 in corner kicks.

Anderson opens a two-match league homestand by playing host to Brevard on Wednesday, with kickoff against the Tornados is scheduled 4:30 p.m. in the nightcap of a women's/men's doubleheader.
