Trojans Fall to 19th-Ranked Mars Hill

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson men's soccer team scored first, but visiting Mars Hill notched a pair of unanswered goals as the Trojans dropped a 2-1 South Atlantic Conference decision Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Anderson fell to 1-8-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference, while suffering its fourth consecutive setback. The 19th-ranked Lions improved to 9-2 and 4-1.

After a scoreless first half, AU sophomore Lars Zimmerman scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 53rd minute after teammate Shu Ogawa dribbled down the right side and fed the ball through the middle to junior forward Eduardo Cabastani, who found Zimmerman for the score.

But Mars Hill responded with two unanswered goals to claim their seventh win in the last eight outings. Lions' senior forward Stephen Bivens evened the score with a goal at the 59:49 mark and sophomore Alex Mullen scored his third game-winner of the season in the 67th-minute off an assist from junior defender Gregg Munn.

Anderson senior goalkeeper Lukas Hesse went the distance between the pipes for the Trojans, garnering one save, while MHC keeper Zac Scott played all 90 minutes in net and made one save to earn the victory.

The shots were even at 9-9 on the afternoon, while Mars Hill held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Anderson travels to Newberry on Wednesday for a South Atlantic Conference matchup which is slated for 4:30 p.m.
