ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson men's soccer team scored three second-half goals and the Trojan defense held Brevard without a shot until the 76th minute, as AU shut out the Tornados, 3-0, in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Anderson (1-4-2, 1-0-1 SAC) earned its first win of the season and also posted its first shutout of the campaign, while Brevard fell to 1-5-1 overall and saw its league record evened at 1-1.

The Trojans thought they had found the back of the net in the eighth minute of action, but the goal was waved off due to an offside penalty and while the Tornados recorded a pair of corner kicks in the opening eight minutes of play, neither team was able to mount a shot attempt until AU senior midfielder Ben Jones posted the first of his two shots on goal at the 25:34 mark.

Brevard threatened with a free kick following a foul whistled on the Trojans in the 35th minute, but the Trojan defense turned away the Tornados' attempt, while AU sophomore Lars Zimmerman's attempt at 37:34 went just left of the post.

Following the scoreless first half, Jones found the back of the net for his second goal of the season from close range in front of the goal in the 55th minute.

Zimmerman's attempt five minutes later hit the post, but the native of Malente, Germany notched the first of two scores in the 68th minute to give Anderson a two-goal cushion.

Sophomore Daniel Colvin found Zimmerman open directly in the front of the net and he added his second goal at the 72:27 mark by firing a rocket into the back of the net from 10 yards away, boosting AU's advantage to 3-0.

The Tornados recorded their first shot of the contest in the 76th minute, but AU goalkeeper Lukas Hesse collected the first of his two saves on the afternoon to help preserve the shutout.

Hesse went the distance between the pipes to earn the win, while facing just three shots on the day. Brevard junior Pauli Jussila absorbed the loss while recording four saves in the effort.

Anderson out-shot the Tornados, 10-3 and held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Trojans will play host to Tusculum in the middle contest of a three-match homestand on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
