Volleyball Team Compiles Highest Team GPA

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson College volleyball team recorded the highest team grade-point average in the AC athletic department during the 2004-05 year, athletic director Bobby Beville announced Monday afternoon. Head coach Jennifer Bell's volleyball team, which set a school single-season record for victories last fall with 25, recorded a 3.285 team GPA in the spring to finish the year at 3.193, 0.104 ahead of the women's tennis team at 3.089. Six of Anderson's eight women's athletic teams finished the year with team GPAs of 2.9 or higher. The softball team also finished above 3.0 at 3.081. The women's basketball team, which advanced to the East Regional final, just missed the 2.9 mark for the year at 2.815. The leader among the men's sports was men's tennis at 2.772 after recording a 2.835 during the spring semester. For the year, Anderson's 293 student-athletes compiled a cumulative average GPA of 2.741. Five of the last seven years, AC athletes have compiled a cumulative average GPA of 2.7 or better. For the '05 spring semester, the cumulative average GPA for the AC athletic department was 3.108.
